​Volunteer Program Manager


The Jewish Relief Agency is an innovative, volunteer-driven organization whose goal is to help families in need. Founded in 2000, JRA delivers food assistance boxes to approximately 3,200 households across the five-county Philadelphia region and is on track to deliver 550,000 pounds of food in 2019. JRA attracts between 800 and 1,200 volunteers a month from all walks of life to come together to deliver food and other supportive services, helping them connect with their faith and community, and renewing their appreciation for the personal impact they can have on our world. 

JRA is seeking a Volunteer Program Manager to perform the critical role of creating and managing an outstanding volunteer experience. We are seeking someone who is an excellent communicator, creative, energetic, and tech-savvy.


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage a high volume of communication with individuals and groups interested in volunteering via volunteer registration, phone calls, and emails, confirming participation in a timely fashion
  • Develop and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment and outreach 
  • Perform data entry related to volunteers reserving monthly food delivery routes
  • Manage the pre-distribution process, including preparing the delivery routes, organizing the volunteers’ materials and early, late, and express pick-up schedules
  • Manage the Route Owner Program and maintain communication with participants leading up to a distribution to acquire RSVPs
  • Build and nurture relationships with community organizations and attract new groups to food distributions
  • Schedule and manage weekday volunteers for deliveries and birthday card program
  • Coordinate the deliveries of special items (Cradles to Crayons bundles, backpacks, holiday gifts, etc.) for JRA recipient families
  • Provide a fun, safe, and educational volunteer experience, which may include facilitating a brief information session or orientation 
  • Oversee the Birthday Card Program including responding to inquiries about participation, coordinating the decoration of cards by individuals and group volunteers, and organizing the mailing
  • Plan and facilitate volunteer recognition for Yellow Cappers and general volunteers 
  • Represent JRA at community events to promote volunteer opportunities 
  • Facilitate and serve on the Volunteer Engagement Committee and Leadership Academy Committee to successfully plan programs and services with JRA Board members and volunteers
  • Manage, develop, and implement the B’nai Mitzvah and Junior Yellow Capper programs
  • Coordinate with multiple day programs to provide volunteer opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities 
  • Measure and analyze programs, recommend changes for improvement 
  • Regularly track and run reports about volunteer participation
  • Other duties as assigned


WAREHOUSE RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Approximately four days a month, including the monthly Food Distribution Sunday, work remotely at JRA’s warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia
  • Act as the lead staff member during weekdays at the warehouse to ensure smooth check-in and delivery processes of delivery routes
  • Work with multiple partner organizations serving adults with intellectual disabilities to achieve successful volunteer activities. This includes helping the volunteers and their aides understand and correctly execute the packing and delivering of food boxes
  • Assist with preparing the warehouse for distribution which includes packing boxes and setting up the food assembly lines
  • Deliver food boxes when needed


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent at establishing positive working relationships with volunteers, groups, board, and professional staff
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and make recommendations to resolve the issue at hand
  • Friendly, self-starter, who is flexible, and has a sense of humor
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work collaboratively
  • Knowledge and understanding of non-profit organizations
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to manage both small and large groups of individuals
  • Superior skills using MS Excel, MS Office/365, and Google Drive
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community, traditions, and practices 
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-4 years’ professional experience 
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds 
  • Must have access to a car and a valid driver’s license
